This workshop focuses on ‘PHASING’ compositional method, developed by Steve Reich during the 1960s and 1970s.
Having performed Reich’s music for almost 20 years, I am offering this workshop to share with everyone the instrumental (and electronic) techniques, compositional methods and tips for ‘pattern phasing’. The workshop is aimed to everyone wishing to understand and experiment with ‘phasing’. Instrumentalist are more than welcome to try out and practice ‘phasing’ on their instruments (considering computer as an instrument as well).
Over the course of these two days, we will cover an introduction to its history, principles and terminology, we will listening some examples, follow by a active practice by every participant on their instruments.
Thefore, this workshop will require:
-Any kind of sound object/instrument (from a violin to a pair of bongos)
-A computer with audio software (all practical work will be carried out using accessible open-source software.)
