Anika Edström Kawaji
EXTENDED GREY
Extended Grey is a hybrid room built in situ with aural and gestural images. Victor Guaita (viola), Andrés Navarro García (percussion) and Anika Edström Kawaji (dance). The performance is the result of an open interpretation of Anne Leilehua Lanzilotti’s work « Gray » in which the artists question the impermanence of movement and sound, while seeking multidisciplinary interactions through composition and improvisation. They establish a dialogue with the architecture of the place and with the public who are invited to participate in this new ephemeral and changing space.
Victor Guaita Igual, viola, completed his studies under Paul de Clerck at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel (2014). He founded and devoted himself to Zerkalo Quartet, working with composers such as Hosokawa, Posadas and Sciarrino, and obtained a second master degree in string quartet at the MusikHochschule of Hannover in 2019.
Victor has collaborated with contemporary music ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Ictus and Divertimento and is currently exploring the ritual of solo recital, researching multidisciplinary interactions (Gray, 2020; Garden, 2021), and questioning the format of performative spaces (Tarot Readings, 2020; Prologue: They were here first, 2021).
Recently he has created Ï Î, a duo together with aulos player Lukas de Clerck.
Anika Edström Kawaji (Sweden, 1994) works with dance and performance. After her studies at
P.A.R.T.S. (Brussels), she was engaged as a dancer on a full-time contract at Rosas/Anne
Teresa de Keersmaeker (Brussels) where she performed in several works between 2016 –
2020, such as Rain, Drumming, Rosas Danst Rosas, Achterland, Bartók/Beethoven/Schönberg,
The Dark Red Research Project and Brancusi. Anika is currently collaborating with Robin Haghi
(a fellow colleague from studies at P.A.R.T.S. and projects at Rosas). She has recently been
collaborating in the projects: Gray (together with percussionist Andrès Navarro Garcìa & viola
player Victor Guaita, Brussels), and Breadth (together with Robin Haghi & Erik Eriksson,
Borlänge, Sweden) in 2020 as both performer and maker.
Andrés Navarro García (Murcia, Spain) is a percussionist that focuses his work on the field of
contemporary music. His desire for offering more personal music proposals to the audience has
led him beyond the interpretation. Nowadays a big part of his work develops between
investigation, composition and improvisation fields. Andrés has composed music for theatre,
percussion and ensemble. Some of his projects have been performed in concert halls such as
STUK (Leuven), Q-O2 (Brussels), Sala Verónicas (Murcia, Spain). Nowadays he is currently
based in Brussels after having finished a Performing master in KASK & Conservatorium
(Ghent). He combines his activity as soloist with several ensembles. He is member of the
minimalistic music ensemble Stefaan Quix & Het Quixtet and the free improvisation band The
Cosmics Union, he also collaborates with contemporary ensembles such as Ensemble 21,
Container Ensemble, G.A.M.E. and several orchestras and choirs. Andrés is the artistic director
of the festival of contemporary music and free-impro Unknown Orbits and the percussion festival
coPer_ACCIÓN.
